The Myth of the Self

(poetry and song)

The myth of self controls us all
We think we're separate, we think we're flawed
Drop the self and you can see
Everything else allows us to be
We're the same as the grass and trees
The worms and the ants and bees
The particles we have in our bodies
are not the same ones we had as babies

The universe experiences itself through us
We don't all see it yet, but we must
We're just a compilation of the world outside
It's time to open up your eyes and your mind

We gotta move past this materialist
view of the world and all the things that exist
It's gonna hold us back, we're going to stay its slave
It'll control our thoughts and the way we behave

It's our culture that dictates reality
It tells us greed is a part of humanity
As long as we believe this we'll never be free
We'll just continue on this path of total insanity

Because The myth of the self controls us all
and we think we're separate, and we think we're flawed
Drop the self and you can see
Everything else allows us to be
We're the same as the grass and trees
The worms and the ants and bees
The particles we have in our bodies
are not the ones we had as babies

We're new

We are the universe, experiencing itself

open your eyes...
